Overview
The new .COLLEGE gTLD is for Colleges looking to make a home for themselves online. This new domain extension offers a more relevant alternative for higher education schools than the existing .edu extension, which is used today. Dot COLLEGE is for the elite and specialized educational institutions. Colleges are now able to register their very own 'ourschoolname.college (i.e. boston.college).
But it's important to note that .COLLEGE is an open registry. This means that any group, individual, or company can use this unique domain name extension for almost any reason. If you market to student groups, offer scholarships, or are an organization that is aligned with, but is not necessarily a part of a particular college, you may still register a .college domain for your brand.
The goal of the new .college gTDL is to provide a new/better way for Colleges and Univeristies to make their websites easily identifiable to their students and constituents--and to bolster confidence for their online audience. Registering a .college domain extension for your brand will help you grow your attendance, by letting the world know exactly who you are and what you do. And it will help enhance advertizing efforts and help you promote your business (or yourself) more effectively online, increasing search rankings. Be sure to get the .college domain name you want before it's taken.
